MARTIN MYSTERE'S SPIN-OFF
From Martin Mystére's articulated world, four spin-off series have been derived; they take place in Martin Mystère's universe, but the Detective of the Impossible appears in them either marginally or not at all.
Stories from Elsewhere
(Storie di Altrove)
(forthcoming in 1996)
Elsewhere, a futuristic and secret government base dealing with paranormal
phenomena, occasionally appears in the Martin Mystére series. Divided
into various sections dislocated in an enormous underground structure, it
is run by one of Martin Mystére's buddies, Commanding Officer Chris
Tower, who, on occasions, asks for help from the Detective of the Impossible
in solving particularly difficult cases.
Martin Mystére's readers already know that Elsewhere has a
long and intricate history (in a Martin Mystère's story they saw
it in action during World War 2); the spin-off series Stories from Elsewhere
presents events set in many moments of the last two centuries: Elsewhere
was founded in 1776 by Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin when a
dangerous supernatural threat broke out in the newly independent United
States. Real characters such as Edgar Allan Poe, Phineas Barnum and many
others appear regularly in Stories of Elsewhere .
Magic Patrol
(Published in Zona X from 10th May 1995)
Martin Mystére cooperates with Elsewhere a few days a year;
what happens the rest of the time? The spin-off series Magic Patrol,
tells us: it features the exploits of the "Lambda Operative Group"
(better known by the facetious nickname that gives the title to the series),
a patrol composed of people endowed with paranormal powers. The Magic
Patrol fights all types of non-canonical threats, and has an equally
welltrained team linked up with the sinister Men in Black as its
main antagonist.
Atlantis Tales
(forthcoming in 1996)
In Martin Mystére's stories, reference is often made to Atlantis,
the legendary land that sank in the ocean some twelve thousand years ago.
Atlantis Tales is a fantasy series set shortly before the catastrophe,
when the lost continent was flourishing and technologically advanced. The
characteristics of Atlantis in Atlantis Tales are the same that the
readers already know through the archeological discoveries made in our times
by the Detective of the Impossible.
The Men in Black
(Gli Uomini in Nero)
(284-page mini series, forthcoming in 1997)
A run through the long story of the Men in Black, from the foundation
of the sect after the catastrophe that destroyed Atlantis untilits degeneration
in our times. The internal struggles between the philosophical wing and
the armed wing of the movement.
